Flyer (blank) 1.png

In the Digital Canvas program, students identified a meaningful cause they are passionate about changing in the world. They employed this cause as the foundation for their final projects, drawing inspiration from the surrealism art movement and applying it to digital media practices. Throughout the program, participants delved into the surrealism art movement, leveraging its exploration of the inner psyche to inform their creative endeavors. The curriculum encompassed a wide range of skills and tools, including Adobe Photoshop, AdobePremiere Pro, stop motion, video recording, photography, image manipulation, animation, sound design, and writing.

Concluding this program, all students created a 30sec - 1min experimental video art project which exhibit was exhibited at ART180 on February 2, 2024 during First Fridays in Richmond, VA.

En Silencio- Silence
by Somer Mer Mar

My art seeks to shed light on the feelings and struggles of discrimination, racism, and systemic obstacles that the Latino students encounter in American schools. By using visual mix media and sound, my objective is to bring attention to the unsaid conflicts that exist inside school systems, emphasizing the need for change, transformation and cultivating a welcoming environment that values and embraces diversity and fairness.

Nostaljia by Tucker White

I like visuals that remind me of my past. This is why I made the visuals in this video old fashioned, because most of the movies I watched were through a VHS system. I made the poem for those who feel like me, hurt, and finding it hard to move on.

Pirate's Island, Quest of the Crystal Turtle by Florian Speck

The meaning behind my art piece encompasses feelings of anxiety, being chased, and experiencing trauma in life. It reflects the struggle to forget painful memories, which persistently resurface, akin to a relentless pursuit. The title of my project is 'Pirates Island: Quest of the Crystal Turtle,' where the arrow symbolizes a sense of protection. It conveys the idea of someone or something standing up against obstacles that hinder progress. Additionally, it may represent individuals escaping from adverse situations, such as fleeing from a troubled home life or a toxic relationship. Ultimately, it illustrates the daunting nature of anxiety and its impact. I believe it has surpassed my initial expectations.
